It's any one of
our family of seismic switches or seismic controllers which, when used in
combination with either our FLO-PAK 24 Volt DC motorized valve actuators or
with control valves by other manufacturers, combines to create a seismic safety
system. The heart of the system may be either our patented, model SS1001 mechanical
seismic sensor or our brand new FLO-LOC 2, solid state seismic sensor. Both
perform their tasks with incredible reliability and accuracy and are specified
according to customer preference. ![]()
When an earthquake or other seismic disturbance strikes, exceeding a pre-set g-force trip point, designated valves are either closed immediately or, depending upon the FLO-LOC model involved, remain open awaiting actual evidence of a line break, closing only when the water flow rate exceeds pre-set parameters.
A typical seismic
safety system for rotational or gate valves consists of three dedicated products:
a seismic switch or controller, a motorized valve actuator and a 24 Volt DC
power supply. In most cases multiple valve actuators may be combined with
a single seismic switch or controller. Some manufacturers make seismic sensors
while others make motorized valve actuators, while still others make power
supplies. Only FLO-LOC makes a complete, factory-tested seismic safety system
with valve actuators powerful enough to close any valve in an emergency situation.
For control (altitude) valves, all you need is our model FL202 Seismic Switch
and a three-way latching solenoid valve installed in the valve's pilot system.
On the other hand if you need seismic protection but your motorized valve
actuators are already in place or you just prefer another brand of actuator
no problem, we can do that too.

The original FLO-LOC seismic sensor was designed in 1989 to fulfill the need for a simple, reliable ground motion sensor to protect natural gas lines in homes and commercial installations from damage resulting from California's ever-present earthquakes. The prototype was shown to officials at a nearby Municipal Water District. They were so enthusiastic that we directed our focus to making the protection of municipal water storage and distribution systems our primary goal.
Your job is providing your community with safe and abundant water. Our job is to make your job easier and safer. Everyone involved with "Team FLO-LOC" is dedicated to providing the most reliable yet technologically innovative seismic protection and fluid management products possible to the Municipal Water Industry. That dedication is particularly important to us -- it's our water.
